I recorded myself in three different conversations (with permission) and listened back. The patterns were humbling: I interrupt, I finish people's sentences, and I start formulating my response before they finish speaking. Recognising it is the first step. Working on it now. Listening deeply is one of the oldest forms of care. When you give another person your full attention, something in them recognizes it, the way a plant recognizes water.
The patterns that are hardest to see are the ones we carry without knowing, the quick reply before the other has finished, the silent judgment dressed up as understanding. Noticing them is already the beginning of something new.
What you speak from the inside tends to become what surrounds you on the outside. So it is worth sitting with what you actually want to say, before you say it.
