I grew up watching my grandmother tend her garden in Dakar with a kind of attention I did not understand until much later. She never called it regenerative but she was composting before I knew the word. I came to this work after a decade in finance, realising the money was flowing everywhere except toward the land. Mine is embarrassingly simple: I watched a documentary about soil microbes at 2am and could not sleep for three days after. Something just clicked. I started reading everything, quit a comfortable job, and spent two years on a farm in southern Sweden. I still do not know where I am going but I know what direction I am facing. I came to this through grief, honestly. A river I grew up swimming in ran dry when I was 22. I needed somewhere to put that grief that was not just rage. I spent years building open-source coordination and compute infrastructure
— distributed job systems, agent tooling, the plumbing that lets people and
machines share work. Somewhere in there the question flipped on me: what is
all this coordination *for*?

The answer ended up being land. I bought 120 acres of high desert in the
San Luis Valley outside Moffat, Colorado — a place called Sand Angel. It's
fully fenced, it holds two ephemeral lakes that rise with snowmelt and rain
in one of the driest inhabited valleys in the country, and it sits next to
Penitente Canyon with the Great Sand Dunes on the horizon. It came with a
semi trailer holding a whole disassembled Quonset hut — a first home in
kit form, waiting for me to learn how to raise it.

What woke me up was realizing the same systems thinking I use in software
applies directly to soil and water: measure, experiment, document, share
results. Except here the artifacts feed people and the uptime is measured
in seasons. I'm early in regenerative practice and honest about that —
Sand Angel is my living classroom, and eventually a retreat where
burned-out builders can come put their hands in the ground and remember
why their work matters.

I found ReGen Civics looking for the incubator — stayed for the Game.
